Emphasis will be on the basic fundamentals of composition, design, color, value, edges and drawing.  Week one will begin with understanding and interpreting photos and field sketches. Week two follows with laying in the foundation of the larger painting. week three will continue with laying in the painting and developing color harmony. The following weeks will involve reworking areas of the painting as necessary with the idea that painting is a series of decisions and corrections. Developing and understanding good practices in the studio will also benefit students in their future outdoor plein air work. Throughout the course Brett will lecture and demonstrate as well as work with individual students as they paint. If time permits we will conclude the final week with a night painting excursion.
